Description
This is an original, hand-rubbed imprint of a mahimahi that was caught off the coast of Maui by my friend and neighbor. Printed using the direct method of gyotaku using soy-based ink and rubbed onto rice paper.
The rice paper has a deckled (irregular, feathered) edge. The art can be framed using a “floating mat”, if desired to emphasize the deckled edge.
Titled in the lower left corner “mahimahi (Coryphaena hippurus)”, signed in pencil and stamped with my red seal in the lower right corner. Comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
The name mahimahi means “very strong” in Hawaiian. A beautiful fish that ranges all warm seas.
