Introducing the Leafy Seadragon, a limited edition fine art print inspired by the original gyotaku artwork. Leafy Seadragons are an extraordinary species, and like seahorses, the males carry the eggs in their pouches. Their intricate leaf-like appendages provide excellent camouflage and protection in their natural habitat.
Gyotaku, an ancient Japanese art form dating back to the 18th century, has been employed to create this beautiful and intricate representation of the Leafy Seadragon. This technique involves applying ink to a specimen and then hand-rubbing the imprint onto paper or cloth, capturing the fine details of the subject. To honor and protect these endangered creatures, a replica was used instead of a real Leafy Seadragon. This approach allows us to celebrate their beauty while preserving their populations and habitats.
Each limited edition print is carefully matched to the original artwork and produced on heavyweight, textured, 100% cotton fine art paper using archival pigment-based inks to ensure longevity. The deckled edges add a unique and elegant touch, allowing the print to be framed traditionally behind a mat or “floated” above a backing to highlight the distinctive edges.
“Leafy Seadragon” is a limited edition with only 200 prints available. Each print is signed, numbered, and stamped with my red chop, accompanied by a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
