Known locally as “palani”, the Eyestripe surgeonfish (Acanthurus dussumieri) is a colorful fish usually found resting under ledges, preferring depths of 6 meters or more. Surgeonfishes are named for the sharp, sometimes venomous blade-like caudal spines ahead of the tail. Their skin is rough like sandpaper which makes the gyotaku impressions very interesting.
