Description
This exquisite fine art print features a Giant Kelp strand, meticulously reproduced from the original gyotaku artwork. Each limited edition print is carefully matched to the original, printed on heavyweight, textured, 100% cotton fine art paper using archival pigment-based ink to ensure lasting beauty. The deckled edges add a unique, sophisticated touch, allowing the print to be framed either behind a mat or “floated” above a backing to highlight the delicate edges.
About Giant Kelp
Macrocystis pyrifera, commonly known as giant kelp, is a large brown algae native to the Pacific Coast. It can grow over 150 feet long, with an astonishing growth rate of up to 2 feet per day! Giant kelp thrives in dense underwater forests, which provide essential food and shelter for a variety of marine animals. In addition to its ecological importance, giant kelp is also used in cooking, often to enhance the flavor of bean dishes and other culinary creations.
I collected this partial kelp strand while exploring the rugged coastline of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, during a recent visit. This artwork captures the natural beauty and majesty of the Pacific Northwest.
Each print is signed in pencil and stamped with my red seal in the lower right corner, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity.
