Bring the beauty and wonder of Hawaii’s sea life into your home with this stunning limited edition print of the original gyotaku work of art featuring the Hawaiian Sea Turtle, known as “Honu” in Hawaiian. Created using the ancient Japanese gyotaku technique, where ink is carefully applied to a fish or other specimen, then an imprint is gently hand-rubbed onto paper or cloth.
To ensure that this print honors and protects Hawaii’s endangered sea turtles, replicas of Honu was used instead of real ones. This allows you to appreciate the beauty of these magnificent creatures while preserving their habitats and natural populations.
This limited edition print is matched to the original with meticulous accuracy and printed on heavyweight, textured, 100% cotton fine art paper using archival pigment-based inks to guarantee that your print will last a lifetime.
The edges of the paper are deckled, and can be framed either behind a mat or “floated” above a backing to show off the paper’s deckled edge.
Artworks in a limited edition have a set number of prints available for each size offered. “Honu” comes in a limited edition of only 100 prints.
Each print is signed, numbered, and stamped with my red seal. It will arrive with a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
My hope is that my work helps raise awareness and appreciation for Hawaii’s most magnificent and vulnerable resource. A portion of the proceeds from each sale is donated to local non-profit organizations that are working to restore healthy reefs and native marine life populations.
