Description
Celebrate the beauty and diversity of Hawaii’s sea life with this limited edition print of an original gyotaku by artist Debra Lumpkins. Using ink, rice papers, and locally caught fish, this artwork captures the stunning details of a Kagami Ulua (Alectus ciliaris). Fishing for uluas in Hawaii is a popular sport and cultural tradition that requires skill and patience, as the large and powerful fish are kniown for putting up a strong fight.
Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese printing technique used by fishermen to document their catches. With meticulous accuracy, Lumpkins matches each print to the original to produce a unique and beautiful reproduction of the fish.
Printed on heavyweight, textured, 100% cotton fine art paper using archival pigment-based inks, this artwork is designed to last a lifetime. The deckled edges of the paper provide an elegant finish that can be framed either behind a mat or “floated” above a backing.
This limited edition print comes in a set of 200, each signed, numbered, and stamped with Lumpkins’ red chop. Your purchase includes a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
Through her art, Lumpkins hopes to raise awareness and appreciation for Hawaii’s precious marine life. A portion of the proceeds from each sale is donated to local non-profit organizations dedicated to restoring healthy reefs and native fish populations.
