Description
Surgeonfishes are named for the sharp, sometimes venomous blade-like caudal spines ahead of the tail. The Orangebar surgeonfish is commonly seen in small groups, on shallow sandy reefs. Body changes at will from two-toned to nearly black. Juveniles are mustard yellow, gradually developing an orange bar.
