Description

Bluestripe snapper (Lutjanus kasmira), known locally as “ta`ape” is a species of snapper intentionally introduced to Hawaii from French Polynesia in the 1950s along with its cousin the blacktail snapper. It has adapted quickly and successfully to the waters of Hawaii and are abundant. Ta’ape are considered an invasive species that competes with native species for food and habitat. It is typically marketed fresh and whole, and is an alternative for more expensive native reef fish.

This is an original, one-of-a-kind, hand-rubbed impression taken from the actual fish. Printed with soy-based ink and rubbed onto mulberry paper. Titled in the lower left corner “ta`ape (Lutjanus kasmira)”, signed in pencil and stamped with my red chop in the lower right corner. Includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
