Description

Most dragonflies are tropical and loss of wetland habitat threatens dragonfly populations around the world. Many dragonflies have brilliant iridescent or metallic colours produced by structural coloration, making them conspicuous in flight. I enjoy seeing dragonflies fluttering around my yard and pool. I found this dragonfly carcass in my yard.

Dragonflies are represented in human culture on pottery, rock paintings, statues and jewelry. They are used in traditional medicine in Japan and China, and caught for food in Indonesia. They are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness in Japan, but seen as sinister in European folklore. Their bright colours and agile flight are admired in the poetry of Lord Tennyson and the prose of H. E. Bates.

Printing insects is similar to printing fish, though they are much more delicate and take some careful handling. This is an original, one-of-a-kind imprint. Printed onto washi paper using an archival, water soluble, printmaking ink. The finished art was then dry mounted to a rice paper backing using a traditional mounting method used for Japanese and Chinese scroll mounting. It is PH neutral (acid free). The paper measures 6 inches x 8 inches and has a soft deckle edge.

Signed in pencil and stamped with my red sealp in the lower right corner. It will arrive with a certificate of authenticity.
