Description

At a time when life in the oceans is threatened, cephalopods seem able to buck the trend. They grow quickly and typically living for only one or two years. They produce lots of eggs, and their eggs have relatively low mortality rates. Squid, octopus and cuttlefish populations are booming across the world.

The Hawaiian name for the octopus is he’e. The he`e has a special place in Hawaii and is embraced as a powerful spiritual symbol and a connection with ancestors.

Sliced octopus is great in a classic poke base of sweet onions, scallions, soy sauce, and sesame oil, but adding a little kimchi and chili flakes makes it even greater.

This octopus was given to me as a Christmas gift by a friend who goes octopus hunting on a regular basis. Printed in the traditional method of gyotaku using sumi ink and rice paper. The paper has a deckled edge. It is titled and signed in pencil, then stamped with my red chop. It will come with a certificate of authenticity.
