Description
Shibi ahi, also known as yellowfin tuna, is a popular and important fish in Hawaiian fishing culture. In Hawaiian, “ahi” means tuna, and shibi refers to a young yellowfin tuna that is typically under 100 pounds.
In Hawaii, shibi ahi is highly valued both for its delicious taste and for its cultural significance. The fish has been a staple of the Hawaiian diet for centuries, and it plays an important role in many traditional Hawaiian dishes, such as poke and sashimi.
I recently had the pleasure of creating a few shibi ahi gyotaku prints, and the result was truly breathtaking. The shibi ahi, caught by my neighbor, was a magnificent specimen with bold stripes and shimmering scales. Using ink and washi paper, I was able to capture its unique beauty and character. Each print is a one-of-a-kind work of art that captures the beauty and unique features of the fish.
Whether you’re a lover of marine life, a collector of unique artwork, or simply looking for a statement piece to decorate your home, a shibi ahi gyotaku print is a stunning choice to bring the beauty of the ocean into your home!
This original was printed on an unbleached mulberry paper using non-toxic soy-based inks so that the fish could be enjoyed in a meal afterwards. The paper measures 12 inches x 22 inches and features a deckled edge. The artwork is signed, numbered, and stamped with my red seal, and comes with a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
