Description
This is an original, hand-rubbed impression taken off a parrotfish (Scarus rubroviolaceus), known locally as “uhu palukaluka”. Caught by a friend off the shore of Maui.
Common on shallow reefs where it feeds upon live coral, the beautiful parrotfish plays an important role in maintaining the balance of life on ocean reefs. They start life as females and eventually large fish may switch genders and assume a color pattern that includes some blue, green or yellow. Parrotfishes are popular food fish and threatened by overfishing.
Printed on Xuan rice paper using an archival, water soluble, printmaking ink that is oil-based. It is PH neutral (acid free). The paper measures 18 x 30 and has a deckled edge.
One of the main ways to protect your artwork from moisture, dust, and UV rays is to frame it under conservation glass or acrylic which has a coating that blocks the UV rays. A mat is optional, as long as the artwork is not in direct contact with the glass.
Titled in the lower left corner “uhu palukaluka”, signed in pencil, and stamped with my red chop in the lower right corner. Comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
